With the end of finals comes a sweet, sweet holiday break. December is Learn a Foreign Language Month, so why not spend a few of those free hours picking up some new lingo?
Did you know that 21.6% of Americans are bilingual, compared to 43% of people worldwide? Or that 61.6% of people in the U.S. speak Spanish at home? This is twelve times greater than the next four most common languages other than English spoken in the U.S.: Chinese (5.2%), Tagalog (2.6%), Vietnamese (2.3%) and Arabic (1.9%)!
Interested in learning a new language, but not sure where to start? Sign up for a language class at Cerro Coso! The library has several guides to help supplement our foreign language courses:
As long as you're a student or employee, you have access to all of the Cerro Coso library resources! You can also check out a guide on finding foreign language materials, as well as a list of foreign language books at our International Club page. Prefer something in print? Stop by the IWV library to see our Non-English collection whenever we're open!
As a reminder, the library will be closed between semesters, from December 11th to January 15th. If you’re on the IWV campus, don’t forget to stop by next Monday and Tuesday (December 4th and 5th) for your free donut/snack and coffee/tea/cocoa.
See you next year!
