Library Chat WidgetIf you've recently been on the library webpage, you may have noticed that our library chat widget looks a little different. That's because we've joined dozens of other California community colleges in switching to the LibAnswers platform. The same basic features haven't changed for you, but it should allow us to do some pretty cool things in the future.

If you've never tried our library chat before, here are a few things you should know:

The chat is staffed 24/7

We are part of a global consortium of librarians, so no matter when you need help, there is always someone on the 24/7 Ask a Librarian Chat ready to answer your questions. We provide these librarians with a Cerro Coso profile and FAQ so they can do their best to get the right information to our students.

Get citation and research help

The chat is staffed by librarians who can help you with developing a topic, coming up with search terms, locating resources, and formatting your research papers and citations. They can also answer general library questions. However, since the majority of librarians are from other colleges, they won't have access to our databases and may not be able to point you to specific articles. They also can't help you with writing or proofreading your paper - for that, you should head to the Learning Assistance Center and drop in on the writing lab or request the help of a tutor.

Get a follow-up email from a Cerro Coso Librarian

Since librarians from other colleges don't know our students and collections quite like we do, Cerro Coso librarians can also follow up on questions that were not satisfactorily answered. This is why it's important to include your Cerro Coso email address in your original request.

So the next time you have a research question, give the chat a shot and let us know how it goes!

If you want help specifically from Cerro Coso librarians and don't mind the wait, you can also email your question or fill out our research request form and we'll respond as soon as we can.
