5 Library Services You Might Be Missing Out On

by Cerro Coso Library on 2022-08-01T08:00:00-07:00 in Library | 0 Comments

When most people think of libraries, they think of rows and rows of books. While that's definitely still true, the library has so much more! If you haven't been to the Cerro Coso library lately, here are five things that you might be missing out on:

1. Textbooks

The fall semester is just around the corner - do you know where your textbooks are?

If you don't, you can check out the library's Textbooks on Reserve list or do a course reserves search in our library catalog to see if we have your textbook available at your preferred campus site. We even have a few textbooks available in eBook format. Reserve textbooks are library use only, which means they are available any time we're open. Come visit us to read, scan, or photograph the chapter you need today for free!

2. Interlibrary Loan

If you find yourself needing books or articles that we don't have in our library, you can request them from another library through interlibrary loan. Just fill out the request form with requested information such as title, author, and date, and we'll do our best to track down a copy for you! In nearly all cases, this service is free. Please note that delivery of print material may take 1-2 weeks, so be sure to request items as soon as possible.

3. Library Research Guides

Not sure how to begin finding resources for your essay? Take a look at our Library Research Orientation guide. Need help citing in APA? Check out our APA Citations guide.

There's a library research guide for nearly every subject taught at Cerro Coso, as well as guides for many specific classes. In fact, we have over 70 library research guides on a variety of topics! Each guide includes relevant resources such as library books, databases, articles, and web links, all collected in one convenient place.

4. Study Rooms

Need a quiet place to crash for few hours? The IWV campus library has four study rooms available. You can either reserve a room for a group study session at the circulation desk, or grab any available room on a first-come, first-served basis. We also have free study snacks if you need a brain boost in the middle of your session!

5. Librarians

If you are trying to narrow down a research topic, can't find any good sources for your paper, or want someone to look over your MLA citations to see if you're doing it right, don't hesitate to ask a librarian for assistance. You can schedule an appointment, correspond by email, chat, or phone, or drop in during our research lab office hours on Zoom. Whatever you need, we're happy to help!
